I just finished reading “Three Cups of Tea”, an account of the amazing work Greg Mortenson has done in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Wow. Everyone needs to read this book. Everyone needs to see what what man has done. He is literally moving mountains instead of climbing them, though some say the problem with illiteracy in the world is a huge mountain.

Three Cups of TeaThrough education Greg Mortenson is tackling terrorism, promoting peace, and increasing the quality of life for this and future generations in the poorest regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Regions that are forgotten by their own governments. When the book was completed his Central Asia Institute (CAI) was helping over 24,000 children get an education. Twenty four thousand! The number continues to grow as the CAI continues to build schools, fund higher education, and provide necessary education and resources to these regions. It only costs $1.00 a MONTH to educate a child there - and teacher’s salary average $1.00 a day. Think about that the next time you order a triple venti sugar-free non-fat mocha with 3 pumps at Starbucks. I know I will.

Buy this book at Amazon, buy it at Barnes & Noble. Buy it wherever you buy your books. I bought it at Costco, of all places. Buy a copy for a friend or library. Just read it and share it. If you buy it via the Three Cups of Tea website a percentage goes towards helping the cause. Just buy it, that is the important thing. The book needs to simply be read. When you’re done, pass it on, share it, spread the message in it. It’s life-altering - in a good way! :)

Donate to Pennies for Peace, a concept started by school children help send children to school and to provide pencils, supplies, notebooks, etc. It’s tax-deductible. What better use of a few dollars?

Visit the Central Asia Institute website. Learn more about what is being done, what has been done, and donate a few dollars (or more!) so the work can continue.
